Petrojam reopens Montego Bay fuel facility after hurricane repairs

Jamaica Gleaner | 2025-12-08 | Original Article

Fuel tankers are once again rolling out of Petrojam’s Montego Bay Industrial Loading Rack, following four weeks of repairs after Hurricane Melissa caused widespread damage in western Jamaica.

The reopening is expected to provide a boost to the resumption of business and leisure activities in western Jamaica, which is still recovering from Hurricane Melissa, which struck in October.

Throughout November, Petrojam said it maintained fuel supply to the western parishes by sending shipments from its Kingston Industrial Loading Rack.

The refinery said since Monday, the Montego Bay facility resumed full daily deliveries of 87- and 90-octane gasoline, ultra-low sulphur diesel, and aviation fuel.

“We are delighted to have been able to reopen over the past few days, and we are grateful to our amazing teams who worked 24/7 to get us up and running again,” said Brian Case, acting reliability and maintenance manager at Petrojam.

He added that the restoration strategy focused on creating a safe and improved environment for fuel delivery while maintaining Petrojam’s position as Jamaica’s primary fuel supplier.

Among the upgrades to the Montego Bay facility are improvements to fuel delivery equipment, reinforced storage and fuel lines, extensive debris removal, and strengthened perimeter fencing.

Petrojam said it has also been assisting drivers in western Jamaica through social media updates on open service stations.
