ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Tensions erupted in the usually quiet Bona Vista Housing Scheme in Myersville on Saturday after residents unleashed mob justice on a man they accused of being involved in a burglary in the community.

The deceased has been identified by police as Jermaine Davis.

According to police reports, around 2:00 p.m., Davis was seen driving a black Toyota Voxy through the community. The vehicle is believed to have been linked to a break-in at a house in the area earlier in the day.

Residents reportedly confronted Davis as he attempted to leave the premises. During the struggle to restrain him, police say Davis allegedly pulled a knife, sparking panic among the crowd.

He managed to flee the initial confrontation but was later cornered by angry residents, who, according to police, stoned and mobbed him. Both Davis and the Voxy were later set on fire.

Police responding to the scene discovered Davis lying along a roadway with his hands and feet bound with ropes. Officers say he still showed signs of life and was rushed to the Mandeville Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sources indicate that Davis had previously been implicated in another burglary in Manchester, during which he was also reportedly beaten by residents.

Investigations into the deadly mob attack are ongoing.
