Search for missing schoolboy Jayden Smith remains active, says Manchester police head

Jamaica Gleaner | 2025-12-01 | Original Article

Head of the Manchester Police Division, Superintendent Carey Duncan, says the police remain vigilant and active in their search for missing schoolboy Jayden Smith.

Contacted by The Gleaner for an update on Monday, he said the investigation is “alive and well” as efforts continue to locate the 12-year-old.

“We continue to work earnestly to bring closure to the matter; however, we are yet to get any fulsome result. But the police will continue its effort,” Duncan said.

Several residents have expressed concern that public attention surrounding Smith’s disappearance has waned, especially following the passage of Hurricane Melissa, which devastated several parishes.

Some believe that the disaster has inadvertently diminished interest in finding the Manchester High student.

Smith, who hails from Wales district in Manchester, was last seen on Friday, September 26, 2025, in Mandeville after leaving school.

As news of his disappearance spread, multiple searches were launched across the parish, but all have so far turned up empty.

The Manchester police launched an official investigation shortly after he was reported missing, but the case remains unsolved.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact the police immediately.
