JLP officer corp re-election en bloc amid cancellation to annual conference due to Melissa

Jamaica Gleaner | 2025-12-07 | Original Article

The Central Executive of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has approved the re-election en bloc of all members of the party's officer corps, following the passing of a resolution to cancel the party's annual conference.

This came after the party’s Standing Committee met on November 18 and decided to cancel the conference, which is usually held in late November.

In sharing the information more than a week ago, the JLP said the decision was intended to ensure that all of the party's energies remain focused on assisting Jamaicans in recovering from the impact of Hurricane Melissa.

Speaking today, JLP Chairman Robert Montague, in a video posted on the party’s social media pages, said the decision was endorsed by the Central Executive, which is the party’s second-highest decision-making body.

This was the first time the body was meeting since the JLP’s September 3 general election win.

Montague said the Central Executive also approved a resolution to support the Government’s work in the Hurricane Melissa recovery efforts.
