ST JAMES, Jamaica — The St James Municipal Corporation has issued a final warning to all entities that have adopted bus stop sheds to remove damaged or compromised signs following the passage of Hurricane Melissa last month.

Several signs atop bus stop structures were left in a precarious state, prompting safety concerns. Mayor Richard Vernon told the Observer Online that the Corporation is giving a final deadline of December 3, 2025.

“We ask that all compromised infrastructure be removed or restored no later than December 3, 2025. Signs or bus stops left unattended after this date will be fully removed by the Corporation,” Vernon said.

The mayor stressed that the move is not punitive, but necessary to protect public safety and maintain the dignity and vibrancy of Montego Bay.

“This directive is a crucial step in safeguarding our public spaces and advancing the restoration of our city,” Vernon added, urging partners to act promptly in order to help return the city to its former state.

The Corporation continues to work closely with private and public partners in ongoing efforts to repair and restore Montego Bay’s infrastructure.
