MONTEGO BAY, St James — A domestic dispute reportedly erupted into violence after a woman asked for help, leaving her injured in a machete attack, police say.
Authorities allege that Gavin Seaton, enraged after the woman sought assistance from another man, physically assaulted her in her Mount Zion home on the evening of November 4. The attack began with Seaton choking and striking the woman across her ribs and breasts, police reported.
When the woman attempted to flee, Seaton allegedly escalated the violence by brandishing a machete, chasing her through the yard and thrusting the weapon through a neighbour’s window in an attempt to reach her. The victim managed to seek refuge in a neighbour’s home.
Seaton was arrested and appeared before St James Parish Court on Wednesday, where he was granted bail of $150,000 with three sureties. Police continue their investigation, with charges expected to include assault and attempted murder.
