MANCHESTER, Jamaica – Tragedy rocked the town of Mandeville early Tuesday morning after a nine-year-old schoolgirl was fatally struck by a garbage truck while making her way to school.
The child has been identified as Amara Moore, a bright Grade Four student of Villa Road Primary, whose life was cut short mere metres from her home.
Reports reaching McKoy’s News are that shortly before 7:00 a.m., little Amara left her home off Bonitto Crescent and was walking downhill when the garbage truck—on its regular collection route—mowed her down. Witnesses say her small body was dragged several metres before the vehicle finally came to a halt, sending shockwaves through the usually quiet community.
A heartbroken father, neighbours, and relatives were seen wailing in disbelief as they gathered near the scene, where grief now hangs heavy in the air. School officials, lawmen, and political representatives also converged on the location, many struggling to process the horrifying loss of such a young life.
The garbage truck involved in the incident has since been seized and transported to the Mandeville examination depot where investigators will conduct a full inspection as the probe intensifies.
