New York, NY — Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was sentenced on Friday to three months in federal prison after a judge ruled that his repeated probation violations required incarceration, though prosecutors had been seeking a harsher penalty.
In a federal courtroom in Manhattan, the judge criticized the 29-year-old performer, calling him a “dumpster fire”, and noted that despite previous leniency, 6ix9ine had failed to demonstrate improvement in his behavior while on supervised release. The judge emphasized that the violations demanded prison time but opted against imposing the maximum available sentence.
6ix9ine, whose legal name is Daniel Hernández, is scheduled to report to federal authorities on January 6, 2026.
The sentencing stems from several violations, including the rapper’s admission to possessing cocaine and MDMA during a law-enforcement search of his Florida residence. He also previously pleaded guilty to assaulting a man in a shopping mall, an incident that occurred after the individual confronted him and called him a “snitch.”
Hernández has been under federal supervision since 2020 following his release in a high-profile racketeering case involving the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods. He received a reduced sentence at the time after cooperating with federal investigators, a decision that drew significant public attention and controversy.
Friday’s ruling marks yet another setback in the rapper’s ongoing legal troubles. Federal officials have not yet commented on whether additional conditions will be added to his supervised release following completion of his custodial sentence.
