The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing the fatal shooting of a man in Scott’s Hall District, Castleton, on Monday, December 1.

The deceased, whose identity remains unconfirmed, is known by the alias “Dodd” or “Dadda.” Police reported receiving intelligence that the man was armed. When officers approached the premises, he reportedly refused to drop the firearm and allegedly pointed it at police, prompting them to fire.

One firearm was recovered at the scene. INDECOM noted that no body-worn cameras were in use by the responding officers.

The incident marks the latest in a troubling trend: 282 people have been fatally shot by police in Jamaica so far this year, a 67% increase compared with 169 during the same period last year.

On the same day, police also fatally shot a man in St James. Both scenes were processed for evidence, including gunshot residue swabs and body photography, pending post-mortem examinations.
