Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) board chairman, Major General (Ret’d) Stewart Saunders, says he cannot comment at this time on the reason for the interdiction of Director General Nari Williams-Singh, saying the matter is under investigation.

Saunders confirmed that Deputy Director General Nichole Morgan is now acting head of the authority, following Williams-Singh’s removal from duties in November. He declined to say how long she will serve in the role.

“As far as the rest of the matter is enquired about, it’s under investigation and I cannot comment at this time,” Saunders told The Gleaner n Monday.

Interdiction is a form of suspension used in the public sector, typically applied when an official is temporarily removed from duties pending a review or investigation.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Transport and Telecommunications, Carol Palmer, earlier Monday confirmed the development but directed queries to Saunders.

In her substantive post, Morgan has responsibility for corporate services, including human resources and finance.

The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority is the country’s aviation regulator, responsible for air navigation services, safety oversight and the administration of civil aviation operations.

Telephone calls to Williams-Singh for comment have gone unanswered. He has been head of the authority since February 2015.
